Raji and her fight with Leukemia |

Rajalakshmi "Raji" Balachandran was a 37 year old mother to two children aged 13 and 11 who was leading a life that any normal housewife and mother to two children will lead. She cared for her two children while her husband worked in Malaysia. She also took care of her parents who lived just a street away. She did it with passion and with a rare form of energy. She was a loving mother to her children and a loving daughter to her parents. However on September 4, 2007 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a rare form of blood cancer that would change her whole life. Here is what happened...
Sept 4, 2007 - Diagnosed with BLOOD CANCER and immediately moved to Apollo Specialty Hospital in Chennai under the care of Jose Easow Sept 6-14, 2007 - Received first round of chemotherapy under the Hyper CVAD protocol Sept 14 to November 24, 2007 - Had a facial fungal infection and was treated for that. She could not be continued on her chemotherapy and hence relapsed i.e. her Leukemia returned back. Nov 24, 2007 to Feb 18, 2008 - Received three more rounds of chemotherapy in Chennai at Apollo Specialty Hospital to put her into remission and to see if she could be moved to the US Feb 19 to April 4, 2008 - Received one round of chemotherapy at NIH Clinical Center in Washington DC and was being prepared for a bone marrow transplantation with her brother as the donor April 6 to April 23, 2008 - Returned back to Chennai because her Leukemia had returned and was given Ayurveda treatment at home Raji passed away on April 24 5.30 PM in Chennai at Apollo Specialty Hospital. After a valiant fight with Leukemia we hope she is away from all the suffering.
